The Catholic University of America

Elena Choong, B.B.E., class of 2016

Hometown: Rockville, Maryland

Q: Why did you choose CUA?

I was drawn to CUA for numerous reasons. CUA is close to home so I can easily visit my family. The school spirit of the students and the challenging engineering program were alluring. My mom also graduated from the Law School in 1994.

Q: Achievements most proud of while at CUA

I was President of the CUA chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) in my Junior Year. Not only did I get the chance to organize tours at FDA, NIH, and Children's Hospital, but during this time, I bonded with all the BE faculty members as they helped me bounce off ideas for activities. I received the 2016 BMES award for outstanding leadership and service.

Q: What extra-curricular activities did you participate in?

I participated in Alpha Phi Omega and BMES. I also played oboe in the CUA Wind Ensemble for all 4 years, as well as dance, ballet, tap and jazz outside of CUA for 19 years.

Q: What did you like about CUA most?

I love the support structure that CUA has given me throughout my entire academic career. Professors do not want to fail students. They want to see their students succeed.

Q. What are your plans after graduation?

I will be doing the Research Masters Program at CUA while working part-time at the FDA.
