CUA Undergraduates win 1st & 2nd place in 2009 DCCEAS College Student Paper Competition

Kristen Kennedy and Thomas Giuliani, seniors in biomedical engineering at CUA, were selected to receive top awards in the 2009 DCCEAS College Student Paper Competition. Upon the recommendation of the Panel of Judges, and with the approval of the Council, the DCCEAS Education Committee selected Kennedy's submission entitled "The Life Detector" for first place in the undergraduate category and Giuliani's submission entitled “Manual versus Automated Lesion Segmentation of Acute and Chronic Experimental Stroke” for second prize.

Normally only the top paper is selected by the DCCEAS committee. However, this year, the selection committee deemed the papers submitted in the undergraduate category were of such high quality

that the panel recommended, and the DCCEAS Engineers Week Committee approved

the award of the usual First Prize AND two additional prizes for second and third place.
